NATURE IS HOME
The Chinese restaurant Green House is a verdant oasis with exotic collection of plants, enhancing the ambience with the vivid beauty of nature.
Inspired by the rugged, raw beauty of Hainan Island, nature is home at Haitang Bay; let us simply relax in this untouched natural landscape.
Nature is never separate from humans. Picture yourself in a paradise-like resort enjoying the tranquil, primitive beauty of Mother Earth, what will you do to give back to this unconditional love?
As a forerunner of sustainable hospitality and green innovations, 1 Hotels made its Asia debut on Hainan island’s beautiful shoreline – 1 Hotel Haitang Bay, Sanya. Inspired by the rugged, raw beauty of the Hainan Island, this ecoconscious luxury lifestyle hotel made good use of the area’s rich resources. You will find peace in this sanctuary when dappled light filtering in through leaf-sheltered skylights to stacks of salvaged Chinese roof tiles, echoing with coastal cliff faces.
“Our inspiration for the 1 Hotel Haitang Bay project is deeply rooted in the vision of the 1 Hotels brand, which aspires to be a relaxed, comfortable, natural and open environment for travellers,” explains Dr. Lin Hao, company director and project leader of The Oval Partnership. This architecture, designed by strategic planners Oval Partnership, combines locally sourced natural materials, such as lava stone and red cedar, with innovative green technologies.
Stepping into the hotel, I was immediately surrounded by lush gardens and native greenery, encapsulating the biodiversity of the area’s local species and natural surroundings. A lush mangrove tree courtyard offers a tranquil retreat, while living green walls planted with local vegetation, such as ficus pumila and ferns, flourish across staggered roof terraces and semi-open courtyards. Let us simply relax in this untouched natural landscape.
The contemporary, minimalist design of guestrooms features the island’s natural textures of unpolished natural stones and woods.
The interior design is managed by Singapore-based senior designer Nina Arily, paying tribute to nature. “We were taken by Sanya’s raw nature of fertile volcanic plains, green forested hills, sandy beaches and sparkling waters. We wanted the interiors to capture the textures, diversity and spirit of the island,” says Nina Arily.
To bring nature inside, the contemporary, minimalist design of guestrooms features the island’s natural textures of unpolished natural stones and woods, creating harmonious colour tones through an abundance of natural furnishings, including stools made of tree stumps, live-edge timber desks, rattan rugs, bespoke artworks made from sun-bleached driftwood, and organic cotton upholstery, capturing the beauty of nature inside and out.
For food and beverage, the hotel boasts 7 outlets, including handcrafted noodle restaurant Noodle House; oceanfront lobby lounge Drift; relaxing pool-side bar The Sandbox; and The Juice Bar. Incorporating reclaimed timber and steel from old fishing boats and other natural textures, these refined outlets mirror the island’s natural wonder.
01 There are 294 guestrooms, including suites and villas, ranging from 62 square-meters to 1,300 square-meters. 02 Oceanfront guestrooms can enjoy stunning views of Haitang Bay, facing the sandy beach and crystal-clear waters of the ocean.
The hotel’s signature all-day dining concept 1 Kitchen features a rammed earth wall that evokes imagery of rocky coastline, complementing its use of natural and organic ingredients. While the Chinese restaurant Green House is a verdant oasis, with floor-to-ceiling windows that allow sunlight to stream through and bring life to an exotic collection of edible plants, hanging ferns, palms, and orchids. Just a 10-minute ride from the hotel, there is an off-site farm that showcases Hainan’s seasonal produce, providing fresh and organic fruits and vegetables, bringing the farm-to-table concept alive.
To cultivate the best of its sustainable design, the hotel reduces carbon emissions to a minimum. Alongside using reclaimed and locally sourced materials, green technologies are also designed, including solar thermal hot water and rainwater recycling for garden and landscape irrigation. Skylights and clerestory windows allow daylight to be used over artificial light wherever possible, integrating the concept of environmental protection into every part of the hotel.
The hotel has five outdoor swimming pools of a total area of 3,500 square meters, including the Family Pool, Children Pool, Sky Pool-opening soon, Lagoon Plunge Pool and Adult Pool-opening soon.
